Thermage is a non-invasive treatment FDA approved to tighten and lift loose skin while simultaneously improving wrinkles without any cutting or bruising. Are Thermage and Body by Thermage Treatments Painful?
Not any more. Thermage gently lifts the skin to smooth wrinkles, renew facial contours and tighten loose skin. Thermage was very painful when it was first introduced but the new treatment protocols using lower energy along with multiple passes during your treatment have greatly improved patient comfort.

To further enhance your comfort we use "Conscious Sedation" to make the procedure quite tolerable. You are awake during the entire treatment but with the pain pathways being dulled. The result is that you do not experience pain. The new Thermage treatment is quicker, more comfortable and gives superior results.

Are Thermage procedures such as ThermaLift and Body by Thermage Safe?
The Thermage ThermaLift procedure has been perfected. Early on there were some rare treatment issues that have since been eliminated. The former treatment protocol was painful and led to over-tightening of the face with thinning of the facial fat pads. These issues have since been resolved. The new treatment protocol that we use is less aggressive using many smaller pulses of energy as opposed to one powerful one. The revised treatment along with the new larger treatment tips, have not only improved patient comfort but have minimized the risk of any potential side effects.

How do Thermage and Body by Thermage provide superior skin tightening compared to other less effective laser and radio frequency treatments?
What makes Thermage superior for tightening skin is that unlike other Radio Frequency devices, Thermage is unipolar in design. Unipolar radiofrequency has a long, proven, and safe history as it has been successfully been used in Surgery for many years. Unipolar radiofrequency allows a much deeper uniform penetration of energy than that obtained using bipolar radiofrequency devices such as ReFirme™, Aurora™ or Polaris™. Light based systems such as Lux™ and Titan™ were recently introduced, using a light based technology. Titan is being marketed to tighten skin but is not presently FDA approved to tighten loose skin.

There is much advertising about these newer less effective treatments being painless, which is somewhat misleading. In order to tighten loose and give immediate results, adequate heat must be applied to the skin causing the collagen to contract. If you do not heat the collagen adequately, the collagen will not shrink. Our bodies normally process the sensation of high heat as a sensation of pain. The stronger the heat the more powerful the signal. Common sense tells us that if there is no discomfort it is because there is little or no energy being applied to the skin and therefore poor or no results. Simply inadequate energy = inadequate results. Adequate energy however does not mean that you have to suffer. In our office, we provide conscious sedation. Who is a candidate for Thermage and Body by Thermage treatments?
The Thermage ThermaLift is the ideal treatment for the 30-65 year old patient who is starting to notice some mild facial skin sagging. People who wish to have better facial contouring (e.g. to have more definitions on the chin or jowl lines) are also good candidates. Patients can see immediate improvement in areas such as sagging Jowls or cheeks or with a double chin.

Body by Thermage™ provides excellent results tightening a sagging buttocks, flabby arms or when treating a sagging abdomen. Body byThermage can be used anywhere there is loose skin. While no one treatment is a replacement for surgery, Thermage and Body by Thermage are excellent options for those patients seeking modest skin tightening and not wishing to undergo a costly surgical procedure associated with a lot pain and down time. As Thermage & Body by Thermage are non-invasive, you may return to work immediately after the treatment.

Who is not a candidate for Thermage treatments?
Thermage is not suitable for patients with pacemakers. It is also not suited during Pregnancy.

How do Thermage and Body by Thermage provide long lasting results?
Thermage is a true "bio-stimulator" which due to its heating action shortens collagen fibers in the skin. This causes immediate modest skin-tightening. As this non-invasive treatment triggers a natural healing response, additional improvement is seen over the coming months, as there is continuous rebuilding and remodeling of the skin tissue.

Why is Endermologie not an effective treatment?
There is no comparison. Endermologie is an old technology with a long history of giving poor results. The treatment consists of rolling the skin through 2 rollers providing high pressure similar to the Old fashioned washing machines from the early 20th Century. The treatment can be quite painful. Are Thermage and Body by Thermage replacements for a Surgery?
Thermage is an option. Thermage can modestly tighten skin but it is not a full replacement for a Surgical procedure. Thermage is ideal for the 30-65 year old that is beginning to show signs of skin sagging or wrinkles anywhere on their face or body.

Can I enhance the effects of Thermage and Body by Thermage?
Thermage /ThermaLift skin tightening treatments are great by themselves but can be enhanced by simultaneously undergoing separate treatments of LipoDissolve or Mesotherapy either separately or in the combined Thermage Therma-Boost™ programs as they work synergistically.

Absolutely, skin fillers such as Restylane or Radiesse can be used to eliminate wrinkles, finely contour the face or to add volume as needed.

I have some excess accumulation of fat on my face, can Thermage be combined with either Mesotherapy or Lipodissolve?
To help you further define your facial contouring goals, Meso-spa offers two additional treatment options: Meso-contouring can selectively reduce fat cell volume in small areas of the face where needed. Mesotherapy and LipoDissolve can eliminate larger unwanted fat pockets further enhancing skin tightening.

Can Thermage be used to tighten loose skin in other areas of the body?
Yes, Thermage has been FDA approved not only to tighten loose skin on the face but has recently been approved to treat loose skin on the body.

Is there a fee for Consultation?
Consultations are complimentary with any treatment or if Dr. Pitera decides that you are not a good candidate for this procedure. If however you decide after the consultation not to be treated, a $150 fee will be imposed which may be used towards payment of any other treatment that we offer. We feel that this is reasonable, as our initial consultation will last between 1/2 - 1 hour.
